karma daw

nakarma daw ang japan for past war atrocities, say some chinese bloggers (and some pinoy commenters in pinoyexchange.com), to the dismay of the chinese government.   read China’s official sympathy for Japan’s woes undermined by blogger’s glee.

read too The State Hornet’s Editorial: Disaster in Japan is not ‘karma’ with which i tend to agree.   kung tutuusin pinagbayaran na ng japan lahat ng iyon when the u.s. dropped atomic bombs on hiroshima and nagasaki in 1945 killing 150,000 to 240,000 people  (which is not to condone that heinous act of revenge, it was totally uncalled for, tokyo was negotiating na for surrender).

if i’m thinking karma at all, it’s in the sense of, umm, knowing this area of the world to be earthquake prone, why are we all still here?   why did our ancestors not have the sense to move away to safer places?   i suppose because earthquakes didn’t happen that often, and never killed off entire populations?

in japan’s case, they got very smart about building earthquake proof buildings, but were not smart enough to stay out of coastlines, never imagining that tsunamis could come so instantly?   and they just weren’t careful enough pala about upgrading safety features of old model nuclear plants, read Glenn E. Sjoden’s Why nuclear power is a necessity

dito sa pinas, if a big one hits metro manila, and estimates of widespread devastation prove true, because many of our buildings are poorly weakly constructed, and many of them are built on top of a major fault line, yan, yan ang karma.

  1. could u explain, maybe in a blogpost, what karma is, what rules it abides?

i’m beginning to think that karma is whatever the speaker wants it to be. thus its devoid of meaning. is that true?

  2. One of those Chinese beliefs that makes sense only to a believer or people with passive brains. Bakit si Imelda di kinakarma? At pag US kinarma damay buong mundo?

About.com can be very good sometimes even though it’s classified as a content farm.

“why did our ancestors not have the sense to move away to safer places? i suppose because earthquakes didn’t happen that often, and never killed off entire populations?”

I find this funny, as if humanity has always thought in the long-term. If we were really like that we’d have philosophers for kings.

  3. i know i know medyo malabo. siyempre ibang levels yung personal karma and collective karma. bakit si imelda hindi kinakarma? umm, not in this life — karma nga pala is always in the context of reincarnation, past lives, future lives — so maybe in the next life… and yes humanity has never thought in the long term. oo nga. but maybe it’s time we did, now that we know what we know that our ancestors didn’t know. and then again i guess it’s too late.

yup, its makes more sense if its in the other life.

coz if its karma, then its inter-generational karma. but that doesnt make alot of sense to me; to punish a younger gen for the “sins” of the old. so i thought there was some karma “theology” in which to understand it.

  5. UP nn grad

karma is Gloria Arroyo becoming not becoming a president because her parent was president.

karma is Noynoy not getting elected president because parent was president.

    karma is BongBong Marcos.

  6. si imelda, who started out poor and obscure and ended up rich and famous, may in a next life start out rich and famous and then lose it all and sink into obscurity. unless of course she finally runs out of good karma points (earned in a past life) and has to start paying sooner than later. which is tied up with how the aquino administration decides to play the marcos card.

  7. orlando ;) that’s another way of putting it. sooner or later, for sure, ie lalo na if you believe in reincarnation. the idea of life not being a closed circle with a beginning middle and end. but a spiral, open circles, every life given the option to live good do good, face challenges, work out issues (rather than denying escaping), so the next cycle is a level-up, an evolving of the soul baga…
