China on the Edge

There is something very wrong in China at the moment. China, I believe, has just passed an inflection point. Until recently, everything was going its way. Now, however, it seems all its problems are catching up with the Chinese state at the same time.

The country has entered an especially troubling phase, and we have to be concerned that Beijing—out of fundamental weakness and not out of strength—will lash out and shake the world.  ~ Gordon G. Chang

  1. Yeah, China’s growth and prosperity has run up so fast that little has been done about major structural problems like ethnic rivalries or pollution or corruption or censorship. China had a choice, go free and forthright, or go North Korean, and chose North Korean. Pity. So she will be dumping her fallout into her surroundings, in the form of aggression and theft of business secrets and lying and thieving, for a long time. Fundamentally, China is a thug who was in school for a while, but dropped out and is now rampaging through the neighborhood posturing as a tough guy. Some are afraid. The Philippines is walking a higher road than China. Which, of course, is highly offensive to China, to be shown up like that. Thugs are that way.

  2. Several decades ago,China watchers have described China as the “Sleeping Giant” because of the potential market of a billion consumers. Right now she has awaken and has learned the ropes on capitalist economy. She has become greedy, power hungry and wants to bully her Asean neighbors and eat them alive. Ur right Joe, a thug everybody fears and worries for her mischief abilities.
