mar roxas, way to go!

why was i surprised when mar called a press conference to make his important announcement?   certainly not because i wasn’t expecting him to give way if noynoy decided to run.   i guess what i wasn’t expecting was that mar would make the first move, now na!   and that noynoy would quickly follow, bukas na!   aba, biglang nagmamadali, bakit kaya.

not that it’s a bad idea, kung tatakbo din lang.   i won’t bore you with the heavenly signs (as above, so below), but any astrologer would tell you that it is infinitely better to start anything new this week rather than in the next three weeks.   so mar’s timing, wittingly or un-, is perfect, actually, and the decisiveness, as president of the liberalparty, is quite impressive.   kapanipaniwala na inuuna niya ang partido, sige na nga, ang bayan, kaysa sarili.   not bad atall.   he’s suddenly smelling real good.

i still think noynoy would do better if he finished his senate term first and then prepared to run in 2016 but yeah who knows, rising to the challenge now while the clamor is high could be right too, politically and historically.   at least it makes the campaign for 2010 interesting, even exciting.   no doubt we will be reminded of cory’s people-powered campaign in 1986 — no money, no media.    no doubt noynoy’s people will do even better, given access to media and the example of obama’s 2008 campaign.

but first let’s hope that other opposition presidentiables take the cue from mar and drop out too in favor of noynoy.   actually the only one i can’t see giving up, giving way, is manny villar of the nacionalista party.   so maybe at best it’s going to be a three-way race.   noynoy vs. villar vs. gma’s candidate.   puwede na rin.

unless of course villar and gma start running scared and decide to join forces.   that would be fun, and awesome.

  1. Hi,

Thanks for reading my Cory blog (wow, nagulat ako, may bumabasa pala noon? Akala ko,a ko lang). I replied to your comment just a few minutes ago (ngayon lang kasi ako nagbukas ng blog ulit).

I haven’t read all of your blog entries yet – but I have read two of them, so far – iyong kay Mar Roxas, saka kay Noynoy – yes, I totally agree! I’m not a political animal, but I so agree with what you’ve written. Ano kaya ang sunod na mangyayari, ano …

    Have a great day!

  2. Yep, Mar Roxas, actually seemed sincere. Maybe he’s always been sincere, and we just think, because of his body language and background, he isn’t.

At least I know who to vote now. You can’t do no wrong with Kris’s brother. I seriously doubt he’d steal anything. If he wins, I think his issues would be much more serious: insurgency and land reform. I get a feeling if he wins it will be up to him to finally put an end to these two problems, and it will be a damned serous term for him.

Erap said he will not run if the opposition unites. So we are closer to seeing him out of the race.

GMA’s best bet is Villar. He is her clone – crooked, a liar, and thinks he is above the law

well, i guess mar roxas is just being practical. he is not going to win the presidency. so if he withdraws, he is going to hit tow birds with one stone – we will have a stronger opposition candidate against a potential GMA protector, and more importantly, he will be able to save face without looking like THE BIGGEST LOSER…

To BrianB-Me thinks Mar Roxas is true to his class, intellectually and morally. A decent trapo who like US Vice-Pres. Al Gore did not dispute the results of election because the presidency is not the end-goal nor the end of the world. I watched once a TFC report about Mar riding in the LRT of Metro- rail going and coming to office as DTI Secretary, it is a simple act of humility even if he carried that Harvard or was it Wharton School doctorate. Few pedigreed elites, like him, exhibited such “effete snub” from the oligarchy class to pun US VP Agnew’s famous line. Anyway, Noynoy is Mar’s co-equal and I think Mar will always be there behind the scenes as a real partner and driving force for good governance. We dont know how Noynoy will fare if he becomes the president but it is up to us the people and the policy direction of the political party that will be in control that will determine if the necessary societal changes we dreamed of will be realised. What is important is that we have the right team and the right people with the right attitude whom we can trust can deliver us from this evil govt.

Hmmm. Our primary criteria for a good president is that it should be one who “won’t steal” and one who is “sincere”.

That seems to imply that people who don’t steal and are sincere are in such short supply in our society as to indicate that they are such exceptional qualities in the Filipino. :D

Ironic for a people who not only aspire to greatness but actually fancy themselves as a great people despite a lack of any objective basis to make such claims.

For our sake we should begin to aspire to bigger things both in ourselves and in our leaders than simply “not stealing” and being “sincere”.

America and its allies did not win World War II nor put a man on the moon simply by “not stealing” and being “sincere”.

  7. this is going to be fun covering this upcoming election Angela.. fun indeed.

I would love for Noynoy to bring in new political blood into the discussion, and not just the familiar trapos. If he is to move The Philippines forward, he must be willing to utilize his old party allies, while not being beholden to them once in office. Easier said than done I know. But something which is needed.

  8. How would that alliance benifit the nation?
Villar pardoning GMA when she gets accused of plunder like erap?
    Where is justice in that?
One former president of the US pointed at his office table and said “the buck stops here”

When the next president of the Philippines is inaugurated he or she must say to the table in the presidential office in Malacanang while waving good bye to GMA

    “YOUR LUCK STOPS HERE”

then proceeds about distancing himself to the independent institution of the judiciary and let justice run its course…

I am all the way for Noy Noy, I believe he will do just that…

Be careful opposition. GMA have a lot of money to buck up her favorite dog to run in 2010.Because in Pinas, always politician who has the money win.I know buying vote are not legal, but every election time lot of money come up. Opposition do you have as much Gloria have? How many congressman she bough so the impeachment don’t come through. She pays million in every congressman to stop the impeachment. And she can pay 500 pesos for every vote.Ha ha ha careful. I don’t believe any political party will solve the corruption in Pinas. Who ever win their priority is the party not the masses. And corruption will still goes on. Poor Filipino masses. When will you learn. Don’t sell your vote. If somebody buy your vote get the money but don’t vote for them. Exercise your right to vote and then you will find a change in your government. Then we the people run the country. Not by the politican. Open your eyes fellow Filipinos. In the U.S.A. no Vote buying, Thats why they are proud to say,we the people run the country. I hope you Filipinos learn that.
