It’s been painful, hearing about, and watching the story of, Jennifer Laude’s murder unfold. It is sad enough that there is a murder of any person in the hands of Americans brought onto these shores on “legal business.” But to hear the Philippine President speak of it like it’s a run-of-the-mill death, like it happened in a vacuum, like there is no American Marine as who is the prime suspect, is the height of insensitivity.
Teddy Locsin Jr. thinks United States authorities are not trying to whitewash the Jennifer Laude case. https://anc.yahoo.com/video/teditorial-kalma-lang-233206656.html
Pemberton should be tried for the crime of Laude if evidence points to his guilt. He should not be tried for Nicole. He should not be tried for the VFA. He should not be tried for the history of America in the Philippines. He should not be tired for emotions, but for facts. Here’s my more elaborate view on this: http://joeam.com/2014/10/24/of-perverts-and-sovereign-states/
Why stop with VFA as the context?
Jennifer was presumably killed by an American soldier who happened to be here because of the VFA that happened because of global power politics that happened because of the state system that happened because of the Peace of Westphalia because… how large do you want the context to be?
Let’s just get Jennifer’s killer. That is how she gets justice.
@mb: I agree. VFA is not the issue. Both parties in the VFA as member of the international community recognize the UN Declaration on Human Rights in regards to judicial retribution as victims of crime. Geopolitics must not come into play to avoid unnecessary racial slur and emotional biases.
I saw this movie once about an IRA soldier struggling to live a life (of a killer) that he has no stomach for. What I really remember though is that tranny full monty….
