Shameless

By Katrina Stuart Santiago

We’ve always known Kris Aquino to be shameless.

And no, to me this didn’t start with her wanting to join show business, neither was it about the fact that her mother’s presidency was riddled with her love affairs with “wrong” men, with a couple even fighting it out in Malacañang, no less.

Bakit kaya?

        • mb@
di naman bobo ang masa, ang level of maturity ng Code of Ethics na dapat ini-impose sa advertising companies whose goal is only the “bottom line” of maximizing profit at the expense of sacrificing the “truth in adveritising”. kung baga “lacking of education due to diploma mill concept of our educational system.

          • ” whose goal is only the “bottom line” of maximizing profit at the expense of sacrificing the “truth in adveritising””

            when did advertising lie?

like, skin whiteners– don’t they work? like, did kris ever say “take this, and you will be AS WHITE AS ME”. did she ever say that? has ANYONE ever said that?

I’m not a fan of Kris nor a Kris-hater.

The average Pinoy consumers or masa will buy a product based on “social acceptance” and not differentiating between a want or need basis. The tendency therefore is to be influenced by the advertising even though the economic trade-off in the long run will be detrimental to the society as a whole. This where a matured consumer comes into the picture. If our educational system system stresses the public good rather than the rugged individualism which we copied and tries to imitate from Western societies, then probably we wont have this “idolized” syndrome of advertising.

  2. “The mature thing would be for Kris to stop collaborating with these multinational companies the products of which she endorses. The goal should be to cease to be indebted to any huge capitalist. ”

so all advertising is bad? or just advertising by sufficiently rich companies.

    • gabby,
you have to read between the lines. Sublimal advertising exposes your subconscious into something desirable although not physically present alluding that physical attribute is attainable thru association with the “model” or the endorser even though you she/he may be the perfect example of what is being sold.

      • “Sublimal advertising”

first, i’m not sure i agree with your “Sublimal advertising” interpretation. but lets assume its true. sige, ads manipulate people subconciously. fine.

siguro ikaw jojie, impervious ka sa subliminal?

        ang masa, hindi? uto-uto sila?

Or, lhata tayo, manipulated ng Ads? (i’m not, btw.)

        • Maybe for you and sometimes me, our level of maturity makes our needs or wants independent of the manipulation of ads. But for the gullible majority who swims in the social needs of conformity, their easily swayed to the lures of advertising.

    • this was clearly about Kris Aquino as endorser, NOT about the advertising industry as a whole. neither was it about advertising by anyone at all, but the endorsement of one Kris Aquino of these products that make her employee and bayaran of every other large multinational company, with its contingent oppressions.

      • manuel buencamino

      • like MB, i’m confused. what is the difference between kris as endorser, and ANYONE ELSE who has EVER appeared in a commercial?

hence, i asked about the size of the company doing the commerical. baka this is about multinationals, not kris?

OK. to be clear, if you prioritize love, family and god, you are not living correctly.

tama ba? thats incredible — please tell me that you love your family! its not like these are “evil” ideals to live life by…

ok, what should we teach our children — love, family and god are “horrible”? i’m really curious what the correct priorities in life ought to be… pera? career? power?

    • yan ang negative effect ng media. Trimedia has the power to define and sets the moral standards by which society should behave as a consumer group, thereby creating role models for TV or political personalities which eventually becomes personality cults or role models. Sabi nga noon ng isang social scientist , our society, like the masang Pinoy which idolized a “nora Aunor” or a Sharon Cuneta is not ready for a “revolutionary change” since their mindset is not focus to improve their lives politically, socially and economically. Ika nga, the gullible masa are influenced by the dream factory in the advertising world.
