postmortem: horrid media owe marcos kids a public apology

i thought that imee and bongbong marcos (with wife lisa araneta) showed a lot of class by showing up at cory’s wake, probably at the behest of their mother, who herself had the delicadeza to stayaway.

though it was clearly an ordeal for the marcos siblings (nakatutok sa kanila ang mga camera every step of the way) they nevertheless went through the paces with as much poise as they could muster.   nice of the aquino grandsons to meet them, take them to cory, and sit with them in an an empty front pew.   and yes, what a relief when ballsy finally came out to greet them, shake hands, beso-beso, small talk.   a show of good manners and right conduct all around.   cory would have approved.

when ballsy had exited frame, imee and bongbong left the pew tagged “family” and moved to another, some pews behind.    they must have thought the media cameras would finally leave them be, but no, the media know nothing of good manners and right conduct!

the media behaved absolutely horrendously, gathering around, thrusting microphones and tape recorders at the sibs, asking what they said to ballsy and what ballsysaid to them — an assault that no other guests had been subjected to, and which succeeded only in driving the marcoses away.   was that the point?   how bastos.

my sympathies to imee and bongbong, who did not deserve to be embarrassed so.   cory would have been horrified.

those media people and their bosses — attention, ANC! — owe the marcos kids a public apology.

Comments

  1. I saw this one and was really irritated by it. I’m no big fan of politics nor the Marcoses. ANC sucks! They even had this paid live streaming, in service to the public. Their comments during the procession were even funny. As if saying something just for the sake of saying something.

Add to the lack of manners the frequent closeups of weeping family members. We can see they’re grieving; we don’t need to see every tear on their faces. Konting hiya naman.

  3. hey rob ;) ANC sucks indeed. i kept turning off the sound, couldn’t stand the trite prattle. and yeah, heard about the paid live streaming, grabe, milking the event like there’s no tomorrow, how crass.

Pero still, congratz to the players for knowing the meaning of civility and politeness which were sorely lacking sa ating mga media practitioners.

I love you Boy….. Pwede absent ka muna for a week, I mean, pag makita pa kita, siguro maiintindihan ko na ang ibig sabihin ng babaeng nasusuka dahil sa paglilihi….

  5. Bold and dapat lang post. The excesses of the Philippine media, na manipulative naman at times if not….

Back in my student days, I hated the Marcoses but when Arroyo became “President,” I realized the family wasn’t that bad and that the dictator himself served a corrective purpose for the nation (of course, HR violator pa rin sila). Nakita ko rin how civil and decent Imee, Bong & wife behaved. And may delikadeza nga si Imelda not to come herself.

  6. natatawa ako sa ibang coverage na nakita ko… ted failon asking one of the cory grandkids out of left field… napakilala mo na ba sa kanya ang girlfriend mo?

hahaha…. i think straight coverages like that encourage these “time fillers” that are more regrettable comedy than journalism. this is precisely the jon stewart critique of US cable news.

I symphatized with Cory but i hate to hear those bitter words about the Marcoses , the truth is they ” Marcoses” have done better for the Philippines than any other politicians. The life of Ninoy is more than enough to be mrudered by the unending heroic words that many Pinoys are telling about the Aquinos that made some irritated. In fact Channel 2 was over “OA” with their 24 hrs telecast in the Cory’s wake and no much significant things to view axcept to see the long quies but why INC Minister E. Manalo had more viewers but the son is not taking the opportunity to think of becoming the next hil. President not like Noynoy… Is it not funny that Noynoy used this as a sole basis of running and Kris is returning to be more “oa”…
