huwag ka sanang magpadala kay conrado de quiros o kay alex magno o kay bongbong marcos (strange bedfellows, eh?) na hinahamon kang tumakbo for president sa 2010, na para bang if you dont seize the day ay tipong you will miss the bus altogether.
i so disagree. while it is true that you could win because of the ninoy-cory-kris connection, are you really ready? the nation would expect great things of you. the nation would expect you to be a president extraordinaire who would at the very least bring about a palpable improvement in the lives of millions of filipinos looking for jobs here at home and food on the table three times a day. that won’t happen just because you aren’t a liar, a cheat, or a thief.
i agree with tony abaya, what we need is a forward-looking president, a truly revolutionary president, someone with the attributes and visions of lee kwan yew, mahathir mohamad and gen. park chung hee.
… it is someone who has the qualities of these three foreign leaders that the Philippines badly needs in order to overcome decades of consistently poor governance, restore our badly battered self esteem, and draw for us a credible vision of what we want our country to be.
We need someone like Lee Kwan Yew who was/is personally incorruptible and at the same time was/is so conversant with economics and international relations that he could speak ex-tempore and defend his policies before an assembly of multinational CEOs and diplomats and made/make solid sense, whether they agreed/agree with him or not.
In addition we need the strong sense of nationalism of Mahathir Mohamad who in the 1980s drew a vision – Malaysia Vision 2020, that sought and seeks to transform Malaysia into a fully industrialized country by the year 2020 – that he was able to convince the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-religious people of Malaysia to embrace as worthy of their national loyalty, beyond the narrow appeals of their tribes and ethnic groups. No mean feat, considering the catastrophic demise of equally multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-religious federal Yugoslavia in the 1990s that cost hundreds of thousands of lives.
Mahathir’s nationalism also expressed itself in his readiness to fearlessly fire back at other countries, other world leaders, as well as international agencies whenever he felt they were trampling on the national self-interests of Malaysia.
We also need the single-minded determination of Gen. Park Chung Hee to transform his impoverished, resource-poor and inconsequential Republic of Korea from 1961 to 1979 (when he was assassinated) into a fully industrialized country that is now one of the ten biggest economies in the world.
… this is what the Philippines needs, a leader who can start and lead a revolution, a peaceful one, as much as possible; a violent one, if necessary.
you could be that leader, noynoy. given your parents, the history, the genes, the values, you, more than any other filipino, can do it, can be it. but not without serious preparation for the role, which would mean learning not just from your mother’s successes but also from her mistakes — e.g., land reform, foreign debts, atbp. — and, most importantly, by being truly your father’s son not just in terms of his sacrifice but also of his political ideology.
when your father came home in ‘83 he had a program of action that he drafted while in exile in boston. surely that program of action is worth looking into — other than the dismantling of military rule, things haven’t changed much, except gotten worse, since the 80s — and hopefully, you will be up to the revolutionary challenges it poses.
forget de quiros and other hopeless romantics who urge you to run in 2010. to do so, and to fail at non-violent revolution because you are not ready, would be the end of you. in effect, you’d be neutralized, which would be a shame.
Noynoy
He will not betray the legacy of his parents, our beloved Ninoy and Cory.
Pros:
* the inheritor of the revered Aquino name.
* honest.
* has political experience as a three-term congressman and as a first-term senator.
He could greatly disappoint our long suffering people and affect the legacy of his parents.
Cons:
* no real strength except the Aquino brand name.
* no charisma and rapport with people except when talking about his parents.
* no impressive credentials as a legislator.
my husband and i are very much in the same wavelength with de quiros. my husband totally abandoned his voting rights after salonga lost in the presidential elections in 1992. but now, his hopes are high again and would relish the thought of voting again if only noynoy would run. we hang on to his words that he will only run if he’s sure he can make changes and not just try to make changes.
yes, we need a lee kwan yew. if only we could find one among the presidentiables. i silently wished that manny pangilinan would run for president. honestly though, noynoy to me is like a comfort leader (like a comfort blanket). he may not be able to do great things (who knows?) but i am so comforted with the idea that my leader is one who has integrity…walang aalingasngaw na baho at lalasunin ang mamayan sa kalaunan. with the others, we can never be assured of anything.
Message To Noynoy:
“But as the Romans understood, there can be Emperors of no consequence — and Senators whose legacies are carved in stone.”
Agree with you too Angela!
These people urging Noynoy to run for the highest position in the land have very simplistic reasoning.
Angela,
Romy
Interesting blog, but quite difficult to read.
I urge you to stick to one language. Pick one, do not mix them up.
Secondly, capitalize!
hey EQ ;) indeed “…there can be Emperors of no consequence — and Senators whose legacies are carved in stone.”
hi bajoy ;) noynoy as “comfort leader”, yeah, i can relate to that, gma being so discomforting. btw, we voted for salonga too…
@anna @elmot @ romy: unless of course noynoy surprises us with a great political platform, ‘no?
@ reader : hmmm after 259 posts, yours is the first of 1329 comments to complain about my taglish and no caps. interesting ;)
To EQ: it would be inconsequential if the chosen “Emperor” or the man of destiny is not God sent As I see it, the lesser we intellectualize this collective wish to have a just and humane govt, the better we achieve the moral change that is greatly needed in our midst.
To NoyNoy;
My unsolicted advice to you, take not the heed of the wisest rulers but the call of the hour to do the simple things that will achieve the extra ordinary task given the extra ordinary challenge of fulfilling the simple wish of your parents to serve God and country.
You are armed with an inherited bravery of your parents, history is on your back, the vehicle of of political party,Liberal party, carries the same idealism and vision you uphold, the challenge is not to debate the political achievements but to put to stop the evildoers and shameless leaders who are destroying our democratic institutions.
Moral reformation cannot be legislated, it can only inspired and executed in every heart of those who want change. Just be there and lead the way.
I agree. Step up, Noynoy.
Oh well. Hope for the best.
I would rather have the country have him na lang kaysa maging House of Arroyos ang gobyerno.

I’ve read thru your blog about Kris. Yes she might be too talkative. That’s her god given freedom TO DO . that’s how she’s making her living. If you were to have a brother or a relative per say that has the intention to help your country wouldn’t you want to campaign and do everything in your power to help? I think you’re just jealous, IF you think you’re that good. Do something to help our country then. CRAB MENTALITY. Kris, have never said that she’s simple, if you’re that smart do some research or watch her past interviewS, she clearly mentioned it there that she doesn’t live a simple lifestyle and that’s exactly the reason why she’s not running for the office her parents has instilled it her values THAT “in order for a person to be successful and not become a corrupt POLITICIAN, YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO LIVE A SIMPLE LIFESTYLE”. . THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK. REMEMBER KRIS IS NOT THE ONE RUNNING FOR THE OFFICE, SHE’S A LOVING SISTER WHO’LL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR HER FAMILY.
re: no caps
parang e.e. cummings.
I think Noynoy is quite ambitious in running for the Presidency just bec. of some party’s encouragements. He has no better qualities and experience except of being the only son of Ninoy and Cory , he looks like opportunist in thay way . I don’t respect the ideas that ‘though many have console with them during the wake of Mrs. Cory then without long plans and decisions he suddenly wanted to be become a President. Life of Filipinos will become more miserable in this case if he wins… Noynoy is extra ambitious without thinking…
I pitty our countrymen and some politicians, as if only the Aquinos are the only heroes in the Philippines now. What they have done to improve the lives of the poor Filipinos except that Ninoy was murdered and Cory died due to cancer plus the fact that Kris is so talkative in her tv shows? What makes them a hero and now Noynoy will continue to fight , for what? I got turned off to Noynoy for his intention of running just bec. of the many mourners in Cory’s funeral. His reason of running is very superficial men… and so so cheap, i would prefer Mar, Villar , de Castro or erap but not to Noynoy , who looks clearly an opportunist in this scenario… pls vote wisely …
help us spread the word. let us put our support to sen. noynoy aquino by adding to this online signature campaign http://www.supportnoynoy.org let us show to the whole world that once again, the filipinos can be united not only in edsa but also in the internet.
Sir Jay=:-),
Recent SWS survey wth Noynoy leading 50% will show the Pinoys will be united for a MORAL CHANGE. Its for us to MAINTAIN that direction.
NoyNoy’s resurgence was providential and made in HEAVEN.
Noynoy really needs to prove himself first..Starting with his real intention to run for the highest position. Noy, i say has to do a lot of soul searching first…and really check his true motives…before he gets fried-up on the Highest Chair.
If nonoy wins, it would simply show that filipino voters have not matured at all. Just like in 1998, we are VOTING WITH OUR EMOTIONS, NOT WITH OUR BRAINS.
Judging from the survey results and the pro-noynoy comments here, all these years we have not learned anything at all. And I wonder why sometimes, i find it hard to be proud to be a Filipino.
Sir paolo & Mark jay =:-(
I beg to disagree. In 1992, the people voted an FVR-Erap combination, in 1998 an Erap-GMA, in 2004 GMA-Noli. Why?? Because the people had to balance between one with too much intelligence and another a median. so, this time, Noynoy with an average intelligence and Mar with a super intelligence. a perfect combination. That’s a winning team because the Filipino voter is wise and un-itelligent on both ways. I like Noynoy because he is simple and God-sent, while Mar is experienced and has historical antecedent for Filipinos to be proud of the past and the present political leadership. Thats the meat of my vote.

[…] bears repeating what the journalist tony abaya of manilastandardtoday wrote back in august 2009 in response to rumors that noynoy might run: that […]
Why vote for a WEAKLING and has MENTAL issues? It runs in their family, and that is pretty obvious. The real deal Presidentiable should be this one: http://www.manilatimes.net/index.php/top-stories/14937-villaroyo-a-liberal-party-concoction–np
I dont think Noynoy’s mom and dad would be proud of him. Ngayon palang nangangampanya sya pinapakita na niya tunay na asal niya. Bawat kandidato discredit niya. Tama ba yun? Bakit hindi siya mag positive campaigning? He is a weakling.
I have to agree… people are siding on Noynoy because they want to show sympathy and utang na loob for what Noy’s dad and mom did for our country. Pero mali naman ata iyon. It does not mean that if his parents are good leaders he’d be a good one too.
Being a president is not like a video game.
To the critics of Noynoy-sorry na lang for you!!-Its DESTINY FOR NOYNOY-MAR TEAM TO WIN IN THIS ELECTION WHICH IS MADE IN HEAVEN. ITS NOT UTANG-NA-LOOB, TIMELINESS, EMOTIONAL PETTY-NESS,POPULARITY THAT IS UNDERLYING FACTOR TO MAKE THIS TEAM QUALIFIED BUT PURITY OF INTENTION AND INTELLECTUAL INTEGRITY THAT IS THE OVERIDING MOTIVATION TO SUPPORT THEIR VICTORY.
it’s so obvious that it won’t be noynoy who’s gonna run the country but the trapo’s around him. sad to say, he’ll be just another dummy.
@lupe:=)…dig deeper, you might be in a surprise!!!!! He who laughs last laughs best!!!!:=)
